An Omani port too far?

This was our best, almost only, view of Salalah in Oman. None of the planned excursions appealed to us and the only other option was a taxi ride of uncertain expense into Salalah from the port, "to be agreed with the driver in advance" we were told.

Well, having had a bad experience in Lima where we agreed $25 in advance only to have him double it at the airport by saying that was the price per person, we weren't about to be taken for a similar ride again so stayed aboard Boudicca all day. Some people did have very good experiences with the taxis here so maybe we were unduly cautious. Our choice though would have been a second day in Muscat.

So we watched a tanker refuelling us .....

and huge container ships docking ......

The port area was huge and dirty and not especially nice, so we were glad to be off on the next exciting leg of our trip, five days at sea through pirate waters then up the Red Sea to Aqaba in Jordan.
